I’m Jo from Shenzhen, China, the owner and creator behind Wonder Of Meals.
Just like many of you, I spend my days in front of a computer as a busy office employee. Despite the hustle and bustle, I find solace in the art of cooking. Whenever time permits after work, I treat myself to a home-cooked meal.
I’m not a professional cook, just a cooking enthusiast with a little talent (at least my friends say so, haha). All the recipes you find here are homemade and tailored to my personal preferences and tastes. Most of the recipes are easy or quick to cook, suitable for busy people, just like me.
In China, we have eight famous cuisines, but indeed we have thousands of flavors, varying from area to area. I love the variety and uniqueness of Chinese cuisines, so my recipes aren’t confined to a specific cuisine but mix some of them.

Why did I start cooking?
Online takeout is incredibly convenient in China, especially in a large city like Shenzhen. However, I grew really tired of it after years of eating takeout every day. This was the start of my cooking journey.
When I was a little girl, I liked observing my parents or older relatives working their magic in the kitchen. Being the youngest kid in our family, I always got the first taste of freshly cooked dishes. Besides the first bite of delicious foods, those early experiences unconsciously etched the recipes into my memory and encouraged me to cook.
What have I gained from cooking?
Certainly, I’ve embraced a happier and healthier lifestyle.
Unexpectedly, I’ve also discovered a sense of relaxation after cooking. Sounds counterintuitive, right? Yes, I used to believe that slowly enjoying my takeouts while watching my favorite TV show was the best way to relax.
Actually, after a long day of mental work, one of the best ways to give your brain a break is to transition from mental to physical work. For me, cooking is the ideal choice.
Moreover, cooking allows me to express love through food. Having a delicious meal is one of the simplest things to make people happy.
I was born into a family passionate about delicious meals. We usually prepare the New Year’s Eve dinner together. Everyone will cook their signature dish. Now I have mine to share with my family.

Why do I share recipes here?
Chinese have a long-standing love for delicious food and I’m so proud of the diverse Chinese cuisines.
By sharing my recipes, I’m not only creating a personal cookbook but also allowing others to savor the delights of Chinese cuisine.
Tastes vary widely. Personally, I prefer salty, non-spicy, or slightly spicy food. I rarely add sugar to my meals. If you discover a recipe here that tastes great, congratulations – you’ve just enjoyed a wonderful meal. If not, never mind, maybe you’ll like the next one.
