Winter Melon Stir Fry 【炒冬瓜】

Updated on

Winter melon is a perfect summer dish, as it’s light and juicy. It’s a healthy food that benefits us a lot.

Winter melon is rich in vitamins and minerals, promoting overall well-being. Additionally, winter melon is known for its hydrating properties, aiding in maintaining proper hydration levels. This low-calorie vegetable is a great choice for weight management and is believed to have cooling effects, making it especially suitable for consumption during hot weather. Furthermore, winter melon is associated with potential skin-enhancing properties, contributing to a healthy complexion.

Ingredients

  • Winter melon
  • Garlic: Sliced or minced
  • Chilies: Sliced into rings

Peel and remove the soft and moist interior of winter melon. Only use the firm part and get it sliced into approximately 3-5 mm thick pieces.

I used two colors of chilies, green and red, primarily for visual appeal and enhanced appetite.

How to Stir Fry Winter Melon

I used an iron flat-bottomed pan for this dish.

Step 1: Heat the iron pan until it’s slightly smoking, then add oil. Swirl the pan to coat it with oil. Wait until the oil is hot and flowing on the surface. Add garlic for a quick sauté. Once you smell the aroma of garlic, add winter melon and chilies, stir-frying together.

Step 2: When the winter melon becomes slightly translucent, add light soy sauce and continue stir-frying.

Step 3: When it starts to get a bit dry, pour in an appropriate amount of water (as shown in the picture) and simmer. Season with salt during the simmering process.

Step 4: Once the winter melon reaches your desired level of tenderness, it’s ready to be served. I prefer a crisp texture, so I don’t cook the winter melon too soft.
